So last night I purchased a food scale and used it to cook my dinner. I browned some ground beef for my taco salad and measured out 4oz. (the default serving size). But, 4 oz of the cooked ground beef was almost half of what remained after cooking a pound of hamburger. Intrigued, I measured what was left of the beef and it was 6 oz.
16 oz of raw beef turned into 10 oz of cooked beef. Granted, it was 85/15 and I drained the crap out of it and even rinsed it under hot water for about 5 minutes before returning it to the pan.
Being that I tracked 4 oz of ground beef-- I tracked it as 'extra lean' since I took those additional steps of draining and rinsing-- was I waaay off in calories since I measured it after I cooked it?
If so, what's the solution? Measuring it raw and then cooking it off in portions? An algebra equation?
Are all the meats in the Food tracker based on precooked weight?
