I like white bread. I know it isn't the best for me-but it is what I like.

I like Wonder Smart White. 2 slices. 5 grams of fiber, 5 grams of protein and 100 calories.

I really like the dense grainy breads (think Nature's Pride) but they are 100+ cal per slice! As a kid that didn't register, but now it does. I do bake my own bread sometimes, but I haven't gotten sandwich-type perfected yet. Instead, I buy the cheap-o wheat bread from Target or Price Rite that is only 60 calories per slice. Not the diet stuff, but the plain, smaller slices. I'm assuming that that is how bread used to be, not the jumbo slices we are all used to.

I do enjoy bread baskets at all restaurants and eat my mom's artisan bread when I'm home. She uses a baking stone and the 5-minute Artisan bread book.

Bread is one of my favorites, so I try to enjoy the dense, yummy stuff at special meals, and just eat the cheap plain stuff for my daily lunches.

no bread, grains, or anything that fits into that food group usually. When I do have a piece of bread, its generally diet wheat and i feel boated and am gassy for the next 3 days. I hate it. Grain free/dairy free is the way to go for me.

Whole wheat and multigrain can both be good, but you have to read labels. I don't buy anything with white flour or high fructose corn syrup. If you have a Trader Joe's, the sprouted multi-grain is good.

DAVES KILLER BREAD!!!!!! It's organic, non-gmo, no high fructose syrup and you can pronounce all the ingrediants. Its delicious and so good for you! I am super sensitive to wheat, so I have to have it in limited amounts and this bread is always my first choice on how to get my wheat!

Yeah. I don't like frozen bread . To me, it's like cardboard when you take it out and then it gets damp when you defrost it. I agree with you.

My husband likes to toss bread in the freezer, but to me it seems to have a stiffer, dryer texture. He thinks it's fine, could just be my very picky palate.

HotCoffe- Haha, you should see the sandwhich I have in the fridge here at work waiting for me when I go on lunch break. 4 oz deli turkey, ton of romaine lettuce, tomato slice, 3 mini sweet peppers and I brought some homemade spicy mustard bbq sauce to spread on top. The whole thing is gonna look like it belongs in an episode of Scooby Doo and its only 240 cals. Also brought a fresh Georgia peach :)

I haven't had a problem with the bread going bad. I don't have it everyday either. Just make sure you seal the twisty tie tight. Once in a while I'll have to throw out the last 3-4 slices because I only make/buy food for myself. But its normally still good a week or two after the "best by" date. Does anyone else throw half a loaf in a freezer to keep it fresher? I've heard of that, But I thought it would be soggy when you'd take it out and start using it.

I go with Sara Lee 100% Whole Wheat-- smooth texture, but still whole grains. I also love Ephraim's whole wheat pita bread (5g of fiber, 100 cals), too!

My problem with most of the commercial breads named is they are quite high in sugar--higher than simple whole grain bread has to be. I either make my own or get it from a local bakery that lists its ingredients. I've gotten really fed up with commercial foods in general--the way they silently pump their food with sugar, sodium, or 'fake' fibers. That's just me, of course.

I like rye bread... wait, no, I LOVE rye bread, and I'm rediscovering pumpernickel bread, but my boyfriend is really picky so we usually just get 100% whole wheat. At least it's better than the white bread he used to insist upon!

Hi Kylar,

Wow! I didn't think of going to the Deli for the meat. What a great idea! I went grocery shopping last night, so it'll have to wait till next time.

I found the Sara Lee 100% WW 45 cal slice bread. For lunch TODAY I'm having corned beef, Swiss cheese (real Swiss cheese 1/2 slice) with mustard. I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't had a sandwich in over a month! That's only 293 calories.

I keep each of my meals 200-300 calories, with lunch being the biggest of them. And then I add a few snacks in throughout the day. I also love Swiss and tomato sandwiches and Swiss and cucumber sandwiches. So glad I found this bread!! I was eating cantaloupe and cottage cheese for lunch every day and it was getting boring.

This is a big loaf. Do you keep it in the fridge so it doesn't go bad? Should I freeze 3/4 of it and thaw it out 1/4 loaf at a time? Will it ruin the bread? I just don't want to have it every day.

I've been having trouble getting all my carbs without bread, but I still get 100% whole wheat. I like Koeplinger's (sp?). I'm picky about which wheat breads I eat and recently realized why, some of them smell funny to me. Like Playdoh of all things! Lol!

I usually get Nature's Own 100% Whole Wheat. 50 calories a slice and I like the way it tastes.

I really like the Ezekiel sprouted breads, they have a lot of different kinds and most are about 90 calories. They are flourless, whole grain and I feel like they really fill me up. If I'm going to eat bread, I feel like the less processed the better. I've tried the low cal bread, but I dunno, I feel like it just doesn't have the same nutritional benefits. But that's what works for me right now :)

Hey HotCoffee, I just treat the 45 cal bread like any other bread, its just lower carb. Sometimes in a rushed morning I'll just have buttered toast, or spread some peanut butter over toast and add a banana or raisins. As for sandwiches, I would just add 4oz turkey or ham lunch meat (stay away from salamis) and then mustard (again, avoid mayo to keep the calories down). This made the sandwich a little meatier since it was double what the serving on the package said, which made the sandwich have more protein. Together it'd be about 220 cals with 21g carbs, 7g, fat, and 24g protein. Add a piece of fruit and that is a very lean lunch. No reason that can't be worked into your day.

Recently, I started getting deli cuts of meat. It tastes so much better and the cheapest deli stuff is the same price as the prepacked sandwich slices. Then I added romaine lettuce and a slice of tomato and brought those into work. Sandwiches where no longer bland and I could get a serving of veggies and be fuller. A slice of sweet pepper and/or pickles was good too.

To keep a sandwich lean, use mustard instead of mayo. No cheese gets rid of about 90 calories and the saturated fat. Check the nutritional info on your meat, salami and sausage are fatty. Oven roasted or honey turkey/ham/chicken breast are good options. And then with what I finally figured out, add veggies to kick up the flavor a notch without really adding to the calories.

I was so glad I found the low cal bread, it fits into any day just fine.

I love Health Nut bread, because of the seeds and nuts in it give it a great texture.....but it is somewhat of a treat for me now that I realize what a big chunk of my carbs it takes up. I bought some sandwich thins and they are not bad~!

Hi Kylar,

I am going to get some Sara Lee 45 calories bread today. I wanted to write and ask you what do you put on it? If you want toast, do you put anything on it? You said you make sandwiches -- I haven't had one in weeks because I haven't been eating bread. What do you put on your sandwich that would make it low calorie? Please give me some samples. Would love to have a sandwich without having a high calorie count.

I like the sandwich thins too, especially the multi-grain. Even then, I doubt I even eat 1 portion per day of bread, it really racks up the carbs.

I do not eat much bread but I try to go with breads that that 5 grams of fiber per serving. I also eat sproated brain breads.

For me bread has to be 100% whole wheat, no high fructose corn syrup, no preservatives. My favorite is Nature's Pride Double Fiber 100% Whole Wheat.

one of the main things I look for when I read bread labels is the 'whole grains per serving' stamp

if I buy bread that's more calories per slice, I just use 1 slice cut in half to make my sandwich

I am in love with Nutty Oat bread by Nature's Pride. Not sure how heathly it is but it beats white bread and I am not a whole wheat fan.

I like the sara lee 45 calorie, 100% whole grain bread. I started with their regular version, but two slices of that for my work sandwhich was cutting into my daily carbs a bit too much. Their low calorie version only has 1g protein less, but like 7g less carbs per slice. Added up over a week, it made my lunches fit much better into my plan.

I bought some off brand 40 calorie,100% whole grain bread last time because it was cheaper, but the texture just isn't as good so I'm going back to sara lee once I finish this loaf.

I know what you mean; I have a similar dilemma about bread! I'm always in search of a "better bread", but it really depends what you're looking for. I'm always looking for a small amount of fat & calories, but higher in protein. Whole grain bread would be best to get the most amount of protein you can out of bread.

Though if I wanted more protein, I should be looking at another kind of food completely because I shouldn't have to fill up on carbs to be able to get the right amount of protein per day. Therefore, it even questions the value of bread as compared to some other types of foods, such as swapping out that morning toast for a bowl of oatmeal, which will boost protein & iron intake, while keeping fat at a bare minimum; oatmeal will also keep you fuller longer.

Just take a look at your nutrition tracker and ask: "what can bread do for me?"

What kind of bread does everyone eat? I have always loved whole wheat and grainy breads, I think they have a great texture, but I'm not sure which kind of bread is best for you. Given the choice should you go for a whole wheat or a multigrain style? I've narrowed it down to those two out of the many bread types haha. What do you think?
