I shared this on my sparkpage but I thought I'd share it here too:
A little over a year ago my sister started a diet plan (which has since failed) and just for kicks I stepped on their scale. I weighed in at 157, my heaviest weight ever. This was a real wake-up call for me. I'd long stopped being active--six years of complete and total couch potato lifestyle. I even faked injuries to get out of participating in gym in elementary and high school. Now I had physical proof that I had gone wrong with my lifestyle.
I joined sparkpeople, but even weighing in at my heaviest I didn't make the progress that I would later make. I tried eating better, but with mixed results. And still not excercise. This was April.
In June, I read a tumblr, and decided to pick up running. Even though I was hideously out of shape (I still am) it was the spark I needed. I had the running bug. In August I joined sparkpeople for real. I've been here ever since.
It has not been the smoothest transition. I still mess up eating wise (though I have limited control over my food living with an anti-healthy eating father) and still forget to excercise I am precariously close to my goal.
Even though I don't have full control what I eat, I am still learning every day what healthy eating really means so that I have the tools to be successful on my own.
So thank you spark people! This past year has been amazing.
