If you're working out... you're not sedentary. By definition, you're moving around, and sedentary means you're not getting any exercise.

I would consult the dietician again, and mention the amount of exercise you're getting - I don't want to contradict your previous consultation, especially since I'm no pro myself, byt 1200 is really, really low... you may find that you need to fuel your workouts more.

Also, if you've been doing the same kind of exercise all this time... you may not be burning as much as you used to. What kind of exercise are you doing, and when is the last time you changed up your routine? Challenged yourself?

Thanx Jessalyn, Jenstress, Dids, Nathalin for your inputs and encouragement...since my dresses dont seem loose, i cross checked -- a typo in stating the initial fat percentage .. i started with 52% and so only have a 4% loss. but guess it is better than nothing... I am very stressed out over not losing weight and I guess I need to relax and take things into perspective...and persevere ahead in living healthily and the weight loss should follow...I will also measure myself to look out for inch losses.. thanx and have a great day ....:) :)

Try taking measurement every week, around you stomach, hip and thigh area. You may be gaining muscle while losing fat so it may even itself out. Also it depends how heavy you are to start with and how much you need to lose. It's fustrating in the beginning trust me I know

it may be a small thing, but I find that when I stress out about things for an overly long period of time or in some cases instantly, I don't lose anything. My body creates cortisol which retains the fat. Calm down and enjoy the ride is what my chiropractor keeps telling me. Have fun with life. you only have one to live. the number on the scale is just a number. it is not your fault that the medical and insurance companies put so much emphasis on that number.
Continue to eat healthy, take walks in the sunshine when your son is at school, and don't stress out about a silly number that we put too much emphasis on.

Jessalyn hit the nail on the head here. Your weight might not have dropped, but your bodyfat dropped 7%!!!! That is freaking amazing!!! Have you measured yourself? I am sure that with a 7% drop in body fat, your clothes are much looser and you are smaller in size. I am sure if you were measuring yourself you would have lost quite a few inches. That is a big deal.

Good work, and don't worry so much about the scale. Seriously. I weight right now the same as I did before I had my baby, but I am smaller. I would never have been able to wear these pants. That is great!

If your body fat is decreasing, that is way more important than the number on the scale! Adding muscle won't make you weigh less imemdiately but it's a huge step toward burning more and feeling great. Keep it up!

Hi, I do live a sedentary life. I am a homemaker and with a son who is in his teens and so independent -- I really do not have to run around even at home. Thanx for the detailed reply. let me persevere and move ahead... may be like the bamboo shoot.. who grows suddenly after not growing even a cm for quite a few weeks...i dooooooo hope so..... :) :) :) regards.

Firstly, if you are working with a dietitian, she/he may be the best one to ask for advice as to why you are not losing.

Remember though 1200 calories is the least amount of calories one should consume and this is primarily for those individuals who leave a pretty sedentary lifestyle. Also know that losing weight is not a linear process in other words there may be some weeks where you may lose, some you may gain or remain the same, but that doesn't mean you are not making progress.

While 6 weeks sounds like a really long time, it takes time for your body to make all the changes. Remember that all changes within the body must begin at the cellular level...all the way down to the fat cells need to release the free fatty acids, to the muscle cells making bigger and more numerous mitochondria-these are the organelles within the cells-to give us energy.

It isn't uncommon to see a slight upward shift in weight when we start exercising, or add a new training regimen and eating better. For one the muscles are making more mitochondria which allow for extra glycogen-stored glucose in the cells- therefore, your body hangs on to more water to help with the cooling off process for exercise and for helping process energy. Your muscles will also have an increase in blood volume in order to have better availability to oxygen and removing waste, especially lactic acid. These things coupled with eating higher fiber foods, such as fruits and veggies can show a gain, when in all reality it is just a shift in fluids.

I follow an Indian (asian) diet and so do not track my nutrition on spark... but i have been given a 1200 cal diet chart by a dietitian in my hospital .. it is to lose weight and also bring down my cholesterol. i have followed the diet earlier in addition to exercise and have lost weight... but this time the same comb does not seem to be helping...i have shared the diet on my

If you make your nutrition tracker public it would be easier to advise you.
"eating right" is a relative term and does not say anything about how you are actually eating.

Hi! After yet another break, I started exercising and eating right to reduce weight. Till last year if I exercised ( four days of 45 mins cardio at 80% heart rate with one intense group work out ) and ate healthily, drinking 8 glasses of water the way I have the last few weeks - I would have easily lost 2 kgs or around 4 pounds .. but now it has been six weeks and my weight is not budging. my fat has decreased from 55% to 48 % but why is my weight not dropping ... got my thyroid and hormones checked.. they are perfectly fine.. am getting so stressed out .. i read just yesterday -- if one is plateauing in the very beginning -- one is doing something wrong, cos one would at least lose water.....i am getting so stressed out about not losing weight... help!!! any suggestions please....
