DVD Review: Fit Mommy-to-Be Prenatal Yoga

Pregnancy can bring on all kinds of aches and pains in a woman's body. Exercising throughout pregnancy can help with some of these aches and pains, but sometimes it is hard to find a safe and effective pregnancy workout. Hilaria Baldwin, certified yoga instructor and wife of actor Alec Baldwin, has come out with one of the best prenatal yoga workouts that I have seen, so there is no need to keep looking! With this DVD, Hilaria guides you through a challenging series of yoga poses that provide a great yoga workout while also helping your body and mind feel better. Talk about a win-win situation!

What We Say
This DVD delivers exactly what it promises. It gives you three safe and effective prenatal yoga workouts (plus a 5-minute bonus partner stretch segment, featuring Hilaria's husband Alec Baldwin). At 19 weeks pregnant with my first child, I have been experiencing new aches and pains in my back and hips and this DVD has really helped with those. You have the option to select one workout or select them all at once giving you a total workout for 59 minutes. I have enjoyed this DVD so much that I have used the option to do all three segments together each time, and my body really does thank me for the effort! If I start to feel the aches and pains again before my next scheduled workout, I take a break from what I’m doing and put this DVD in and hit play.

Hilaria leads the yoga workouts and has two other women doing the workouts along with her. She is very good at telling you throughout the DVD that depending on which trimester you are in, you should do the pose a different way and to follow a specific person on the DVD for that pose. As you get further along in your pregnancy, this is a great feature to have, not only for your comfort, but for the safety of you and your baby.

The three main segments in this workout are back pain relief, hip openers, and stress reduction. Each focuses on those specific areas, so if you are short on time and want to just do one workout that targets a specific area, such as your back pain, then you can select just that segment and get the relief you were looking for. If you have more time, then doing all three segments would be a great choice! I would like to tell you which one is my favorite segment, but honestly, they all have a special place in my heart (and body), that I love them all!

This DVD can be done with no equipment, but they do recommend yoga blocks, pillows (or bolsters), and a mat. I don’t have yoga blocks, but will be getting some to help with my comfort and would recommend having them handy for some of the poses. They aren’t necessary, but I found that some poses would be easier if I had those to use. The pillow is certainly something that I would recommend as well. Again, this is more for your comfort and you can use a regular pillow so there is no need to buy a special pillow. Depending on the type of floor you have, you may or may not want a yoga mat.

Bottom Line
As a first time mom-to-be, I love this DVD and will continue to use it throughout the rest of my pregnancy! It has truly been a major relief for all my aches and pains and I believe that it will also help my delivery and postpartum recovery to go more smoothly. I highly recommend it to anyone that is pregnant, especially to those that are having various aches and pains like most of us get during pregnancy. If you aren’t pregnant, but know someone that is then this would make a great gift for her!

There were two women at my fitness center who were doing hard cardio up until about a week before they delivered their babies. And once I had an aerobics instructor who taught her aerobics class and then went and had her baby in the afternoon. Wow! Report
