When you're running/biking/jogging/walki
ng/rowing/swimming
and you want to stop, just tell yourself to get to the next lamppost (or tree, or recycling bin, whatever's nearby). Do this again and again, and you'll end up going much further than you thought you could

    I generally do this when I am walking alone. I run to two lamppost and then walk then two lamppost again. But when I am walking with company I cannot do it because they don't run and I would going on and leave them and that would not be nice..

    I like to use this strategy to incorporate intervals of a quick sprint (or sometimes I'll skip around) into walking.

    Used to do that on my rural runs (& I use the term loosely) down in Texas, only it was "just that next big tree" or the next telephone pole. Whatever works, right??? emoticon

    I use the posts to mark my intervals, whether walking, speed-walking, jogging or biking. :) It helps to break any monotony, too. :)

    I am not much of a runner/jogger, but one day when I was walking my dog I tried this idea and challenged my self to run/jog from one pole and not stop until I reached the other. Soon it was becoming a game of walk one set and try to jog the next etc. Thanks for the idea emoticon

    That is pretty much my own strategy to get in more exericise. Works quite well for me too!
