Contacts Before Onions

Take your contact lenses out before you chop raw onions! I've found that the juice stays on my hands even after washing, so removing my lenses even hours later always burned. Plus, the byproducts from the onion fumes get under my contacts and cause irritation far after I'm done chopping.

  • Actually the irritation you are describing isn't happening in your eyes. It's a chemical released from the onion that irritates your nasal passages, which in turn creates the tearing and burning sensation in the eyes. The chemical doesn't directly effect your eye though. - by UDGREEN

I like to leave mine in, cause then the onions don't hurt my eyes. I've never had onion juice still on my hands hour later - by KAT9119
