Chicken Breasts Or Thighs




When deciding to buy chicken thighs or skinless, boneless breasts, keep in mind that with the thighs you will throw away the bones, fat and skin. You may actually save with the breasts.

  • I try to get the cheapest cuts of chicken I can find (legs are usually really cheap). I boil the meat off the bones and strain everything out. Voila! You have homemade, low-sodium chicken broth! The yummy bits are good on salads or in casseroles. I still buy B/S chicken breasts, but that homemade chicken broth comes in handy when we want soup without all that MSG. - by SOULSINGINSISTA
    I like to keep the thighs w/ the bone and skin so the batter sticks better when frying. I get the most crispy results w/ a mixture of half bacon drippings and half lard. Yummy and filling. - by DEBRADOKHT
  • Yes, thighs are cheaper, contrary to perfect logic. :-) In fact, they're the cheapest cut of chicken per pound. Thighs are my favorite. But I buy breasts at a discount grocery or salvage grocery, so they're still on the cheap. With thighs, it's usually cheaper buy them w/ skin and bones and clean them at home.
