Through the 12-Step program of OA, I learned that I had a disease, and that will-power and self-esteem did not help me stop eating compulsively. Through working this program and defining my own meal plan, I have lost weight, but more important regained my emotional and spiritual balance.
www.oa.org, there are face-to-face, phone and online meetings. There are no weigh-ins, no fees, no diets, and no shame. You do not have to believe in God or belong to any religion to join. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.

This has probably been said but you *NEED* to create a support network. Family, friends, coworkers. Or if you are as isolated as I was, look online or in person. Join a support group like Overeaters Anonymous, heck join several groups, whether they focus on weight loss or not you'll make connections with people who will support you.
There are now so many helpful ways to get the support you need, in addition to Spark people. There is a Spark Team called Overeater's Anonymous, plus meetings and resources at http://www.therecoverygroup.org/ and http://www.oa.org/.
