When I sit down to watch tv or a movie I knit so I cannot snack! It is a hassle to stop in the middle of a row or in a pattern so it often isn't worth it just for what the boys are munching on.

Knitting - A Distraction From My Emotions And Eating
My emotions and thoughts sometimes get out of control and I turn to food to lessen the emotion. When I knit, I find that the racing thoughts and emotions lessen because it is distracting me from what is bothering me busy hand. Also, I use knitting as a distraction when I watch TV or DVDs. If I am knitting, my hands are busy which prevents me from eating.
