Building up the amount of muscle I have helps make every day of the weight loss journey a little easier. It is easier to try new forms of exercise to get out of ruts and plateaus. You might not feel the immediate sweat and calorie burn like cardio but it is changing your body in great ways!

Strength training is so very important, and not widely enough understood. It makes a world of difference in not only your health but also speeds up weight loss big time.

I AGREE. I DO CARDIO 5 DAYS A WEEK AND STRENGTH TRAINING 3 TIMES A WEEK ( MONDAY UPPER, WEDNESDAY CORE, FRIDAY LOWER )

Thank you for the information. I've been doing cario almost exclusively and I'm at a plateau. I'll try to switch it up and add more strength training to my routine.

Exercise: keeping the flame lit
To keep exercise interesting, I break my cardio routine up among different machines and around strength training.
I find something that really makes cardio exercise much more enjoyable is to first improve flexibility, then strength, and then increase cardio.

Since cardio exercises are associated with weight loss, it is easy to become focused on the scale and forget about the other two aspects of fitness. Being flexible and strong makes cardio exercise much less of an ordeal so walking, biking, etc. becomes more pleasant when the body moves with ease.
