When I want one of the kids to do something- it is much easier on me and them if I get the attention first! Often, I'm thinking of what I want them to do and just start talking thinking they are listening to me... then, I usually end up repeating myself and being frustrated. This way- they hear it!

When it comes to healthy eating and exercise, one of the most important things I've learned is to *pay attention* when others make suggestions. Something might not seem like it's right for me at one time, but the more I pay attention, the more I build up a "bank" of ideas and tips I can turn to later. It's hard to get anything right on the first try, but by being committed to trying, I've been able to figure out what works. You never know when something will come in handy!
Turn off the lights and everything else that runs and runs when you don't need it. Our school district saved $250k one year by hiring an energy czar who reminded us to turn out the lights and shut down the computers!
Typically a plateau for me happens when life gets so busy I quit paying attention, neglect counting calories and don't exercise intentionally. During this time, I often don't eat ENOUGH for my body to burn additional calories and so it holds tight to the calories I already have. This is when I do what I can to survive the stress and then hop back on the wagon, counting my calories and working out intentionally. As I begin to pay attention and shake it up a bit, the pounds start shedding off.
