Diet Soda

I've been drinking Diet Coke for a long time now and everytime I try to quit (which I'd love to do) I get severe migranes. Thinking it was the lack of caffiene I tried to substitute with coffee, tea, etc. but nothing seemed to ease the headache except Diet Coke. Anyone else with this problem?

I'm assuming it's what they put in it to substitute the sugar.

    When I "weaned" (I had migraines from too much caffeine and quitting cold turkey gave me "withdrawal" headaches) myself off caffeinated soft drinks here's what worked for me: start taking off at the end of the day and back yourself up until you've elimintated it.

    Drink lots of water. It will help flush your system. I used to be a diet pepsi addict. Now I drink water, water, water, and an occasional diet pepsi or diet dr. pepper. Still have to have my coffee in the morning, but not near as much as I used to drink. It can be done and you can do it! Keep trying, you will feel much better.

    Yep - know the feeling. I tried substituting Diet Coke with other sodas that I didn't like as much thinking I would gradually delete all of it - I just got irritated at drinking yukky sodas. Then I switched over to flavored seltzer waters - weird but it worked...
I'll have a Diet Coke every now and then, but mostly I like picking out all the flavors and since it's water based I give myself one 'atta girl point' for drinking more water.

    Do it gradually by cutting back 10% a week to avoid the severe symptoms. Once you're off, you'll be surprised how much better you'll feel. For a long time, I have only been drinking purified water - except for a few occasions when it's a "treat" to drink anything else. emoticon

    I kicked a Pepsi habit a long time ago. I had full blow withdrawl, sweating, shaking, horrible headaches, irritability. The only thing I found that would help was to open a can of soda and sip on it slowly until the symptoms resolved - and then THROW THE REST AWAY

I just recently kicked a Dr Pepper habit (it was one of my goals). I got really sick with a sinus infection and so I just added the withdrawl headache to everything else and went cold turkey.

You will find a way!

    I had that, too. I had to gradually cut back on the Coke. I found that other caffeinated drinks were not helpful (although I realized that what I was substituting with may not have had as much caffeine in them) Sometimes I would use otc migraine meds to get rid of the headaches- it worked (but that has caffeine in it too!)

    I've been addicted to Diet Coke since high school! I also get the headaches when I try to quit cold~turkey. I've tried cutting back (in fact, it's one of my "Other Goals" on SP) and that will sometimes allow me to get to one a day, then eventually to do away w/ them. I always seem to come back to them, though!
