Eating some greens with every meal (yes, breakfast, too!) makes for a better day. I get my greens in the morning with a green smoothie (1/3 fruit, 2/3 greens and a little green tea to make it drinkable consistency) or I add them to a breakfast sandwich. It really makes a difference for me. I feel better, I don't crave soda, and it just makes my world better!)
I use a Vita-Mix blender to make my smoothies as it has the power to liquify the greens and fruit and all I taste is sweet, cold goodness! Use spinach, kale, collard greens, romaine -- any dark leafy green will work.
That is what we call our breakfast "green drink". To ensure that we have our daily quota of fruit and vegetables we drink a green smoothie every day. I have seen several variations but the one that works the best for us is- 1 med. cuke, 2 stalks of celery, 1 apple with core removed, 2 handfuls of spinach, slice of ginger, 1/4 lemon peeled, 1/2 lime peeled, blended with water to keep it fluid and hubby sneaks in a sm tsp of sugar and dash of salt but that is opt..
If you are like me and don't eat breakfast, a protein smoothie can be very helpful.
I combine 1 c. milk, 2 yogurt, 3/4 frozen berries, 3 ice cubes, protein powder and flax seed. Combined, my smoothie gives me 600 calories and 56 grams of protein. Smoothies can be adjusted for your calorie needs.
