Being mindful about what we eat and the activity we engage in downsizes our bodies. So why not be mindful of our flurry of busy thoughts and downsize them as well? Try writing haiku to focus the mind and create new mantras for yourself. A haiku is a three-line non-rhyming poem of 17 syllables total with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second, and 5 in the third. A form of poetry which originated in Japan, haiku has recently become popular on Twitter because of its brevity. Example below:
Hunger not for food but for a better version of your lesser self.
By downsizing my plate size I am able to decrease the amount I eat without thinking I am not getting enough. My plates look full and I have to use smaller portions in order to get all my food groups on the plate. In three weeks this trick has helped me lose 6 pounds while not feeling cheated.
Although it is a mind over matter trick, using a salad plate instead of a dinner plate for my meals cuts back on how much you serve yourself and lets your brain think you are getting a lot without since your plate is full and has no empty spaces.
How to survive the temptations of Turkey Day? Downsize plates so you aren't as likely to overeat. Pre-cut desserts before serving to keep serving sizes accurate. Put desserts on plates THEN take them to the table- if you have to get up for that second slice of pie, you may be less likely to do it.
