I started by first switching to caffeine free and gradually decreasing the amount. I also tried mix in sweeteners (crystal light etc.) to help replace my craving for something sweet. It's been a gradual process but I feel much better getting rid of soda. It's like I no longer have something controlling me & I'm saving some cash. Hope this helps!

I gave up pop/soda over 3 years ago and I don't miss it at all. I did it cold turkey. I also quit smoking at that time, but have started smoking again.

When I gave up soda, I did it by drinking water-- every time I went to grab a soda, THOUGHT about grabbing a soda, or even SAW soda, I drank a glass of water instead. After a few weeks, I was off soda for good, and onto a healthy water habit. My partner gave up soda by switching out his soda with seltzer water. You can buy it in a variety of flavors (usually in the soda aisle or water aisle) and it's a GREAT alternative if you still want the fizzy comfort.
MORE INFORMATION:
You can usually find seltzer water in 12 packs or 2 liter bottles at your local grocer. You may also find tonic water, which is seltzer with added sodium.
For fresher smelling carpets (and vacuum cleaner): In a bowl, add up to 10 drops of essential oil to 1 C of baking soda (I like to combine grapefruit and tangerine oils.) Mix really well to distribute the oil throughout the baking soda. Sprinkle on carpets and leave for at least 15 min. Vacuum thoroughly.
