In the beginning when I started measuring & weighing all foods my plate looked totally empty. As a result I felt deprived. After the first few months of enthusiasm wore off measuring began to take on "heaping", Not to let my progress slip, I purchased (over time) smaller plates: 9" with a 1.5" rim for dinner, 6" with a 1" rim for lunch, & 4oz.cups for when I really needed a taste of ice cream, Also, changed to using smaller pots & pans so there's less temptation & leftovers.
