I spent about $20 on a set of pretty white ceramic square salad plates at Kohl's (Food Network brand). I use them for all my meals. One, because everything looks tastier on a pretty plate. And two, since I bought salad plates instead of dinner plates, I eat a lot less even if the plate is full!!

Before I joined Sparkpeople, one of my friends told me that the best diet was the "plate diet" -- which would help you make the right food and portion decisions. Sparkpeople's diet suggestions seem to fall closely within this very general diet, and I have found that it is simple and effective!
The plate diet consists of one plate of food. When you fill your plate, meat or protein substitutes should take up one fourth of the plate. Carbohydrates, such as potatoes, should take up one fourth of the plate. Fresh vegetables should take up the other half of the plate.
