if you hold back on things you want, like something sweet, it might make you feel down and then in turn you will eat more to satisfy your craving, but if you allow yourself a chunk of chocolate just to satisfy then you will not over eat.

If I overeat, skip a workout I had no reason to, or otherwise screw up, I'm tempted to wallow and continue down the spiral. Instead, I get on the treadmill and run. I do a work out DVD. The workout lifts me out of the negative thought pattern and I know I'm starting to make up for whatever mistakes I made.
Be healthy. Don't overexercise or starve yourself to atone for mistakes.
Craving that unhealthy burger with all the fixins' and fries?? If you really really don't want to cave, make a deal with yourself. If you can hold out til the end of the week, treat yourself to a compromise.. smaller burger/ smaller fries.. etc.. that way you give yourself a chance to rid yourself of the craving, if it is still there by the end of the week, you satisfy it.
