Ok...your on the road...your starving...and there is only a McDonald's in sight....you want a McDonald meal...hmm...what number do I order? I know! Don't order a number! Order a Happy meal! Who says you can't order a Happy meal? Aren't we all a child at heart?
In a happy meal with a cheeseburger, apple dippers, and apple juice it is only 490 calories!
We all slip up, and I think we all know how horrible it can make us feel when we slip up. Before, that was a trigger for me to quit and give up. However, now when I slip up, I tell myself: It's not about being perfect, it's about doing better than I was. So what, I had one cheeseburger. OK, not the best food choice, but isn't it better then when I would eat a cheeseburger and then have a huge side of fries, and follow it with soda after soda, and then go back for chips?
Don't tell yourself to be perfect, tell yourself to merely do better. And instead of looking at just that one cheeseburger you ate, or the extra scoop of ice cream you had, look back at what you did do right: Walking the stairs instead of taking the elevator, choosing veggies instead of fries, ect.
When I go out to eat, I find it helpful to go straight for the healthiest section of the menu, whether it is the salads or a complete "Light menu." I don't even bother looking at the rest of the menu because that makes things too tempting.
Another tip, when eating out with a bunch of people, make sure to order first. That way, if a friend orders a calorie dense, grease dripping delicious cheeseburger, you are not tempted to follow in his footsteps and do the same.
