I am completely in love with Green Giant's Valley Fresh Steamers. The broccoli in cheese sauce and broccoli, carrots and cauliflower in cheese sauce are both about 150 calories for the whole bag and incredibly filling. They're also ready to eat in 5 minutes. They've been a big part of my getting enough veggies and losing weight. The best part is that they're covered in cheesy goodness so they feel like anything but diet food.
I had a really hard time with giving up some of my favorite treats, so I found healthier substitutions for them. Instead of having ice cream, I have a Diana's banana baby - a frozen half banana dipped in chocolate (130 calories). The banana tastes rich and creamy when frozen while the little bit of chocolate makes me feel as if I'm not depriving myself.
I also had a weakness for candy bars. Now I have a Slimfast peanut butter crunch snack bar instead (100 calories). Other faves: Progresso light chicken and dumpling soup instead of homemade chicken and dumplings, Green Giant broccoli and cheese microwave steamers instead of mac and cheese.
Keep Toss Salad Fresh Longer Use A Silicon Veggie Steamer
I make a big bowl of toss salad and store the left overs in a bowl that has a silicon steamer pressed into the bottom. The steamer I have has little silicon legs so any water that drips off of the salad ends up below the steamer and the leaves stay fresh longer.
Since the steamer is flexible it can be squished into a variety of different size bowls.
