Often when I find myself talking myself out of a workout, I decide, "OK, I'm not going to work out, but I'm going to wear my gym clothes around the house." The simple task of getting dressed for it usually leads to me working out in some form or other, even if I don't end up in the gym

I agree on this one. I also use the "I"m not going to run, I'll just walk" excuse to bribe myself to get out the door. 90% of the time I end up running.

I put my workout clothes on before I leave work. Therefore I'm already dressed and I don't have to go home and get side tracked. And because I work in a casual setting I can sometimes put my workout clothes and sneak in a lunch walk.

I am thankful for this tip because I have been neglecting to get back to walking and even though I love it, told myself that maybe I am tired of walking. I will change at work like I used to do, even when my mind is saying I don't feel like it and see what happens. I am sure this will work, thank you. I have been feeling like I am the only one who does this and I am glad I have SparkPeople like you who share their experiences!!!!!

Oh yea, I've done that before!!! If I don't go to the gym I usually will do pushups, crunches, squats and lunges. Only cause I feel guilty Ha

I've done this when I was worried I might not get around to doing the workout I wanted to do. I usually work out in the morning, but one day I wanted to go for a run/walk after dinner, so I changed into my workout clothes before fixing dinner and it worked.

Put on Your Running Shoes
Even if I don't feel like exercising, or ESPECIALLY if I don't feel like exercising, I go ahead and put on my workout clothes and running shoes. Then I think, "Well I'm already dressed, I might as well go!" It works pretty much every time and helps keep my accountable to myself and my program!
Whenever I don't feel like exercising, I tell myself, "I'll get dressed first then see how I feel." Once I'm dressed, it's as easy as walking out the front door. This keeps me honest in how I really feel about exercising.
90% of the time, I end up exercising anyway. I think it's the extra step of putting on exercise clothes which seems like a larger barrier than it really is.
On the days I don't feel like working out, I make myself change into my comfy workout clothes and put on my tennis shoes. I find that, after I am dressed and ready to go, I am 90% more likely to workout than if I had stayed in my jeans or dress clothes. Now, I automatically change when I get home!
