If you drink your 8 cups of water a day as ice water, you will burn about 70 additional calories as your body raises the temperature of the water to body temperature. Not much per day, but it adds up!

    I have heard that you are NOT supposed to drink ice water with a meal or right after a meal because it basically freezes the food and it doesn't let your food break down or digest properly and can actually be a health issue.

    I was shocked by this, so I did a little research.

It is true, the body only burns 17.5 calories per 16 oz of ice water.

So, if you are drinking 8-8 oz glasses per day, that is 70 extra calories burned based on drinking ice water vs room temp water.

So, since a pound is 3,500 calories, you would lose an extra pound per 50 days.

    Be careful that you are not drinking ice water immediately after a workout or after being in a very hot climate. You can give yourself thermal shock if you do this. (I know because I did it by accident)

    If you're going to do the "ice diet" you'd be better off eating ice and not just ice temperature water. You'd burn about twice as many calories melting the ice as you do warming the cold water to body temperature.

But where does the heat come from to melt the ice or warm up the water? It doesn't necessarily come from your fat deposits. Our bodies produce excess heat from metabolic processes so warming up the water might not even burn any calories.

Drinking water's good for you of course, and drinking cold water is refreshing, but I don't think the ice diet actually works.

Sorry if I've offended anybody. I am no biologist but I do have a PhD in physics!

    This is my secret too! I drink the minimum of 15 glasses of iced water a day.
I find I am never hungry, and some times even have trouble eating my set calories emoticon emoticon emoticon

    True ,but there could be other ways to burn similar amounts. The side reaction of ice water may be frequent visits to the loo.

    Very interesting, In the chinese and japanese culture they drink lots of hot tea and they are a healthy weight. I was loosing weight with hot water?

    Where did you get your statistics? I heard that drinking ice water didn't make any difference.

    I love drinking my ice water everyday. I'm drinking water when I wake up in the morning all through to day until I go to bed.

Drinking water has help me with my weight loss.

    I drink lots of ice water. I believe you burn more calories with ice water rather than room temperature water. If not, it still tastes refreshing! clink, clink (the ice in my glass) lol! Cheers.

    I did not know this! Wow! I drink anywhere from 10-12 glasses of water a day but none of them are ever ice water. I am definitely adding ice to mine from now on! emoticon

    I have heard this before . I love ice anyway. just about everytime i stop anywhere i get a large ice water instead of pop and at restraunts i ask for a large ice water to go! emoticon
