Get A Pedometer

Do not underestimate the power of 10,000 steps a day. A pedometer is incredibly motivating. I won't go to bed unless I have reached the 10,000 step minimum. I am actually in constant competition with myself to see how many steps I can add by a given time each day.

Good for you, I bought a pedometer this week and been working towards 10k steps per day but have not achieved it yet. At this moment my steps are 2500. Will be a great day for me when I do achieve 10k steps. emoticon

For our company safety campaign, they offered 4 packages of safety & health related items to choose. I chose the one with pedometer, can't wait to use it so that I know how many steps I take everyday. For now, I counted steps myself.

I love my pedometer and feel lost when I forget it or the battery croaks. I'm a geek anyhow but the tools are VERY key to my motivation!

In the past, I've had pedometers that weren't very accurate, but I hear that people have great results from wearing one. So I echo Marie's thoughts - suggestions for a good one?

I've been amazed at how my pedometer motivates me to get up and move. I've had a hard time finding one that works consistently though. Maybe it's just because I've bought cheap ones, but they only seem to work if it's hooked to your waist band which hits at the exact right spot - which mine never seems to do. And in summer, I tend to wear dresses or a bathing suit with a cover-up more than anything else so there's no waist band to clip the pedometer to. I've thought about getting the type you put in your pocket, but then lots of my clothes don't have pockets. And again - the kind that hooks on your shoe laces probably wouldn't work since I live in flip-flops or go barefooted all summer.

Any suggestions on a brand/style that might work for me?

I now can't live without my pedometer. I have become a bit obsessed with knowing how many steps I take a day. It really does help
