Getting Your Kids To Cooperate With You

Rather than take away a privilege, my children earn their privileges. Everyday they are expected to cooperate. They can earn up to 9 sticks in a day (3 sticks 3x a day) If they earn 6/9 sticks they earn privileges for the next day. If not, the following day is very boring but they can try again!

More Information:

They earn up to 3 sticks for each portion of the day by being cooperative. When they reach 6 sticks they get to choose privileges they enjoy like time with a parent, extra stories, hot lunch, etc.
I think this could work for grown-ups too--Hence the brilliant sparkpoints we earn emoticon

  • This is a good tip.

The only thing I disagree with is making food in any form a reward (you mention "hot lunch").

Food IMO should be treated simply as a source of tasty fuel, rather than being tied to moral or "good" behavior. Adding emotional "baggage" to food (even "good" emotional baggage) can lead to eating disordered behavior.

A lot of chronic overeaters/bingers abuse foods that were presented as emotional rewards when they were young. - by MINKABONET
