Now that I am retired, I sometimes look at things in my home & wonder whatever possessed me to think I needed them. When we think about giving items away, we hate doing it because we spent so much money on them. But then the things own us, not the other way around.
I suggest putting things into 5 categories:
1) Donate (to Goodwill or similar charity)
2) Sell (remember they must be worth something or no one will buy them)
3) Trash what has no value
(click on title for numbers 4 & 5)
4) Give (such as family heirlooms or jewelry for your heirs) If you are not using the items, you might as well give them away now.
5) Save those few things you can't part with & still use.
Remember the less you have the less you have to clean, file, store, or maintain.
Just do ONE thing at a time. Set a goal, to do one thing, and either master it or incorporate it into your routine. When that ONE thing is done, move onto the next. That way you are not overwhelmed, and you can celebrate your success for doing that ONE thing! Wooohooo!
