Whenever I get the urge to snack late at night, I'll brush my teeth and/or put in my retainers. Once I do that, I'm not likely to want to do it again for the sake of having a snack!

I do something similar... I brush my teeth right after dinner and then just drink water all night!

When you do plan ahead it helps if you have made some food groupings that you can just plunk in. Aiming for the lower limit on your suggested range means that you can have a small bit of wiggle room the next day.
I try and find things to curb late night snacking and I recently was under the weather and was eating ice chips. Believe it or not..they seem to work w/ 'mindless' night snacking.it's time consuming to chew on them and helps with 'boredom' snacking. I even bought (at the dollar store) popsicle makers..i just fill em with cranberry juice (or other healthy stuff), freeze em and they're good for late nights too!
