If you find yourself hanging on to the cardio machines at the gym for dear life, turn the machine down a bit and LET GO! Don't let the machine help you along the way. You will burn more calories going slower by yourself than faster, using the bars for support.
Think of the bars as a safety net!
I made a goal to walk to my local shops and to the school & pre-school instead of driving the car. As I have a baby too I have found it great exercise pushing the pram, especially up hills. My little girl (4 y.o.) likes to hang on to the safety strap & I usually end up dragging her up hills too LOL.
If you have made the step to walk more (excuse the pun) and you have young children or babies. Then walk more with a pram. That way your walking is your cardio and pushing the pram is your strength. If you don't have any children then use ankle weights for your strength componant.
