I buy the value packs of zipper storage bags like sandwich and snack size. When I have something like onions that will stink up the garbage I will put it in the zipper bag and I do the same for more liquid items like egg yolks (cause i only use the whites) and this way it won't leak.

I just love the new Reynolds slow cooker bags. I put one in my slow cooker every time I use it. Once the meal is done you simply pull out the bag throw it away. No more soaking or scrubbing of your slow cooker.
The slow cooker liners can be found on the aisle with zip lock bags, trash bags and tin foil. Price is between $3.00-$4.00
I know this isn't healthy lifestyle related, but I have to give a good review to the Litter Locker contraption. It stores waste that you scoop from your cat box in a odor blocking way. It uses a system similar to the Diaper Genie with bags and a compartment that both help block the scent. I now have 1 less thing to stress about - because it makes keeping the litter box sanitary so much easier. 239
After a few days you open up the compartment and tear the bag, using the attached cutter and take the bag out to the trash. I'm not scooping the box 2-3 times a day since it is so convenient and my cats love it! You can find it at Petsmart for about $20 and the refill bags cartridges are $10.
Get a kitchen trash can that is the right size to be lined with those plastic bags that grocery stores use to bag your groceries. You will have to take the kitchen can to your big garbage can more frequently, but the payoff is a fresher smelling kitchen and no money spent on bags.
If you recycle and don't have that much trash, it works very well. I can hide the small wastebasket under the sink, too
