Avid readers can kill 2 birds with one stone by reading their favorite book while riding a stationary bike or walking on the treadmill. Reading the book takes your mind off of the length of time you have been exercising.

While performing cardio on machines, I listen to audio books on nutrition, motivation and exercise which I have been able to download for free from my public library. It keeps me in the proper frame of mind to focus on my Spark journey. I am also able to maintain my a strong exercise pace. emoticon

I don't read a book it is to hard for me to keep my place but I do read the rag mags. It is my special treat for exercising and it is not necessary for me to lose speed b/c I look at pictures and read short articles.
GARDENSTAR 5/20/2012 9:20:00 AM

I do this while on the exercise bike, but on the eliptical or treadmill it's next to impossible to keep my eye on the place in the book.
PUDLECRAZY 5/20/2012 5:46:00 AM

I can't track well enough for that. I love listening to books on my iPod while I'm exercising.
HYATTI1 5/21/2012 9:21:00 PM

Concentration is hard to do with everyone and everything moving around you. Perhaps in your own privacy you might get away with that but blocking out the world in an active location is not that easy.
BERRY4 5/21/2012 1:40:00 PM

If I'm focused on reading, then I forget to ramp up my efforts in the form of HIIT. If I'm seriously working to get my heart rate up then I have to focus on the cardio I'm doing.
Get in...get the heart rate up...push it...get done!

Great idea - I am going to try this - I don't like riding the bike and usually watch TV - but that is a good idea.
FRIENDOFBACH 5/21/2012 12:28:00 AM

MAVERICK59 5/20/2012 5:07:00 PM

I prefer to load netflix on the laptop and catch up on programs I have wanted to see while I use the treadmill or bike.
MARYHENNIG 5/20/2012 2:25:00 PM

I read my Nook on the treadmill....I enlarge the text to make it easier to read.
GINGERVISTA 5/20/2012 2:17:00 PM

I'd rather enjoy them separately, but for those who can do that.....more power to them! emoticon
SUNSET09 5/20/2012 2:16:00 PM

I have learned to do this while on the stationary bike as well as the trreadmill. It really makes the time go by faster, so ti seems. Some people can and others can't! Thanx for sharing! emoticon emoticon emoticon
DEARTOMYHEART 5/20/2012 1:57:00 PM

Great idea as long as you are able to keep good form.

AKRONDANCER 5/20/2012 12:09:00 PM

My mom does this while walking on the treadmill...hopefully she'll get up to being a little faster (shes doing super!) but unless you're walking or going at a slow and steady pace, its difficult to read. If you're jogging/running on the treadmill or doing HIIT on the bike, it's next to impossible to read!
LYNETTEMOM 5/20/2012 11:36:00 AM

I'm trying to do this but it is difficult due to the motion
ARDILYA 5/20/2012 11:31:00 AM

I have seen others do this soi decided to try reading while on the bike. It does take your mind off the time but not the workout!! emoticon
IMREADY4ACHANGE 5/20/2012 6:36:00 AM

I always read when on the bike or elliptical!
CHIPS6246 4/21/2010 7:45:00 AM
