I agree. Adapt the larger goals down to smaller goals and count them as goals met if at all possible.

you are soooo right! 5 or 10 lbs are not overwhelming and seem attainable. Trying to lose 55 lbs is unimaginable. Nice tip.

I've found that by setting a small daily and weekly goal I am more able to obtain those and feel better about myself and come closer everyday to reaching my overall goal.
My daily goals are drink 8 glasses of 8oz of water and say something positive about myself everyday! My weekly goals very but this week it's to exercise at least 20 minutes 2 - 3 times this week. Next week will be to lose one pound!
For years after the birth of my son I tried to lose the weight. At 1 point I weighed more than my in pregnancy. I would loose and slowly gain again. I talked with a trainer a few times to learn how to exercise correctly, talked with a Nutritionist for tips and figuring out how many calories I needed to work with. I got a fitbit (saw it on this site) and my goal is 10,000 steps a day. this little gadget lets me know how close I am at the end of the day. If I haven't reached my goal by the end of the day, I jump on the treadmill and walk till I reach my goal. This makes me feel good AND helps me loose weight.
