I have arthritis and have had surgery on one knee and to help the pain I exercise even if it hurts because later the pain goes away and I feel better. I don't necessarily advise with all pain but for arthritis it helps a lot. A bicycle helps a lot and is less stressful
I don't have the best knees, and after a long work out they will ache. One day on a whim I decided to see if Vick's Vapor Rub would help with the sore knees. It did! the warming sensation of the Vick's really helped! Though I would suggest doing this at night because it does smell.
