As I make dinner, I put all dirty items in the dishwasher so nothing is left on the counter or in the sink as I cook. By the time dinner is ready, the kitchen is clean. After dinner, put the dirty plates & silver immediately into the dishwasher. Clean the counter & enjoy waking up to a clean kitchen.

During the school year I have to pack 3 lunches most days of the week, and year-round there's coffee to be made for the morning, too. Total time is probably 20 minutes, but when I do it as part of the night's kitchen cleaning, it seems much simpler. There's just less time available in the morning!

Also, when I get up and still need to make lunches, I am much more likely to buy my lunch (never a good idea) and often suggest that my children do the same. Ditto on coffee -- a "go cup" from home is much cheaper than I can pick up on the way to work!
After dinner, I immediately prepare lunch for the next day and clean up the kitchen. I grab enough water to keep me drinking the rest of the night. If I'm a allowed a snack later, I take it with me and then the kitchen is closed for the night.
