Lime juice can serve as a healthy, low-cal substitute for salad dressing. I have found that I prefer the zing of lime on my salads! Salads in restaurants usually have enough added calories before adding the dressing. One way I keep the calories and fat down is to bring a cut lime in a baggie when I plan to order a salad at a restaurant. Ask them to hold the dressing, squeeze on the lime at the table, and enjoy!
I hate salads without salad dressing. And so, I split every new bottle of dressing into two bottles and add malt vinegar to each. It saves a lot of money on salad dressing, thins the dressing so that it coats better, and cuts my salad dressing calories in half.
Put your salad dressing on when you make the salad
Two TBSP of my favorite oil based dressing wasn't cutting it with flavoring all of my veggies in my salad. Now in the morning, or the night before when preparing my salad, I put my 2 TBSP of dressing on the salad after I make it and let the veggies marinate in the dressing. Letting the dressing sit for a few hours covers the salad completely and the veggies are still crunchy and delicious!
