This is the single most useful tool SparkPeople.com provides. If you're new to the site, learn to use it first. Exercise is useful, but learning and controlling what you eat is paramount to weight loss. It takes a little time to learn its special features, but it's well worth it.

Simplify the process: Learn to add foods to your favorites so you don't have to do a full-scale search every time you want to add a food. Learn to search through other people's entries for the foods you won't find in 'regular' diet books. Learn how the grouping feature works to save more time.

    Using the Nutrition tracker, measuring cups, spoons and scales are all you need to turn your past failures in to future successes. Doing this will immediately show you where you are going wrong in the quantities of food you allow yourself to eat.
Stick with the guide at least for the first weeks and do it at every meal. Print the tracxkers if you have to fill them in away from home. It is best to decide the night before and stick with it. Click to verify the food only after you have checked it is the right quantity for the chosen meal. It works.

    I don't know what I would do without the nutrition tracker. Throughout the day, I jot down what I've eaten and when I sit at my computer, I insert all the information. At this point in time, I can actually estimate how much I've eaten but I still prefer to be accountable. It's so easy to go astray.
