In the Spring and Fall there are numerous 5k and longer walks (5k is 3.2miles). These are usually fun, low stress, and are fund raisers for good causes. It's a great way to get out and move and do something good for a worthy cause.

one way that helps me stay motivated and accountable to my walking and workout routines is I have recently started to sign up for benefit walks in my area. I also prefer walking on a team vs. solo (accountability). I'm joining a walking team in my area for the motivation & support they offer. 311
Find a friend who is already exercising and join in with them to walk, join a gym, or swim. I would not have tried these activities on my own but now I have started, having a friend to exercise with is wonderful, but I no longer mind going on my own. It has only taken a matter of weeks ot get to the 'independent' stage 30
