Buy a child's plate (divided into three segments) and child's utensil set. When you use a child's portion plate, you are more likely to get the correct portion sizes. The smaller utensils will force you to take smaller bites. Smaller bites will allow you to eat more slowly and you will begin to feel fuller faster.
Children's plates / utensils are inexpensive.

How often do you find yourself picking the leftover food from your children's plates and popping it in your mouth? After all..we wouldn't want that good food to go to waste, right? Well, those extra calories are killing your diet! Immediately after your child proclaims they are finished eating, pour salt, or ketchup, or mustard, any condiment over the food to reisist the tempatation to sample their meal! Completely removes the temptation!!!
Otherwise known as BLT's! I used to find myself nibbling on the food left behind on my children's plates. BLT's add up! Now, when the kids are finished eating, I have them pour the rest of their drink on their left-over food before they bring me their plate. YUCK! no more nibbling for me!
Same goes for left-overs in the pan. Pan goes directly in the sink and I spray water on it.
