I use my cell phone to take a picture of my plate, especially if I am eating alone. At times I am truly amazed at the amount of food I have on my plate & immediately divide it in half! At other times I am proud of the proportions and color range of food I have selected.
If I find I am consistently over estimating the proper portions I go back to serving myself in recycled frozen dinner trays that are the three divider kind. A piece of fruit & a glass of water & I am back on track in no time!

When I start to have negative thoughts, it usually leads to feeling depressed - the best way to change those thoughts is to write 12 things on a Gratitude List - even if some of them seem trivial, like "I'm grateful I have soap," or tinged with negativity, like "only gained 20 lbs instead of 30," it still works like a magic cure! After all, a lot of people DON'T have soap or DID gain more than I did and it helps to put things into perspective. Maybe my life isn't so bad after all ;-)
