I have had success asking family to join me in fitness activities or just mentioning what I need to do and having them volunteer to keep me company so I do it.
Examples include my 15 year old grand daughter and my sister joining me and completing the week long 'walk in her shoes challenge" and my daughters or grand daughters accompanying me on my walks at least one afternoon a week

Developing a network of fitness buddies and mentors has helped to keep me motivated and has turned me on to new activities I probably wouldn't have tried on my own.
I have co-workers and friends I walk and/or run with, I take fitness classes with supportive teachers, I've joined a walking/running group. Being accountable to someone and having activities scheduled on my calendar encourages consistency.
What activities to you absolutely love? Let your passions drive your fitness success. Identify your sweet spot, which is a fitness activity that you love. Once you find it, spend time having fun.
Don't let "formal exercise programs" discourage you.... instead let you passion drive you to success! I've learned that I absolutely love dancing. Each of us has a different sweet spot. What ever your passion is, work it and work it consistently. Before you know it, you'll exceed your fitness goals.
I tried many times without success to lose weight and eat correctly, and I tried many times to get a workout buddy but failed all around. I finally landed an awesome workout buddy! She is as committed as I am to health and fitness! Keep looking, someone to keep me accountable has been key! 9
