the day after a holiday, stores discount their prices on holiday goods usually be 30%, and on down each day after the holiday. I get greeting cards, wrapping paper, trinkets for party bags, table settings, picture frames, gifts, etc. all on clearance. I can use them for the next season, but some things you can use all year round, like table settings and cupcake papers... then next season you save time AND money. Target, grocery stores, even Victoria's Secret!
I often find gift sets of perfume or body lotion, baking mixes, etc. that I user all year round for people at work or younger cousins, etc. you can repackage them in cute baskets to make them non- holiday themed. Often times I get these for $2-4, when I normally would have paid $15.

To save more money, open several savings or money-market accounts. If you have a specific purpose for an account, you are apt to save more, so give each one a name reflecting its goal. They could be "Bahama Trip 2011," "Johnny's education 2018," "Retirement 2030," "2010 Holidays," ---or whatever you've set for your savings goals. Search online for the best APYs (annual percentage yields) to get the most from your savings.... (click title for more info)
I use bankrate.com. Research your local bank, credit union or at Costco, which gives special rates through Capital One direct banking. It's always a good idea to compare. Interest rates are low now, but my online money market rates are 4 times better than what my local bank offers.
