If you are over 50 or if you are a member of AAA or AARP, ask if discounts are available. Also ask if you can get professional discounts for products related to your profession. I just switched to a new insurance company, and found out if I had gone through AAA I would have gotten a discount.
Examples: Barnes & Noble used to offer discounts on all books to teachers (needed to present a recent pay stub to qualify.) Not sure if they still do. My city offered discounted TIX for Teachers for many entertainment events. Sally's beauty supplies offered discounts for seniors.
Senior Citizen Discount linked to Grocery Store Card
Some grocery stores give senior citizen discounts to patrons which are linked to the store's shoppers card. At Kroger, for instance, one can save 10% on store brand items. Just ask at the service desk for them to load the discount onto your card. Every little bit helps!
