To take away stress and tension I remove myself from the situation by walking with Sparkie my puppy. Long walks soothe us both. Some how the fresh air and time spent with a friend makes for a better day. Unconditional Love can do wonders for ones morale
Studies have proved that animals have a calming effect on people, they cheer people up. Some dog breeds have been taken to nursing homes and hospital wards. Some patients have gotten better just being around the animals. Dogs have also helped in diagnosis of some cancers.

Since one trigger of over-eating or mindless eating is stress, find ways to reduce stress. For me, one way has been to simplify my life, know what is most important to me and devote my time to those pursuits. As I find I have more time, I can incorporate more, but for now, I need to stay pretty basic. For me, my priorities are ME (my studies and my health) and my family. When I feel more balanced I'd like to get back into some of my other interests.
A benefit of simplifying your life and knowing your priorities means that you can focus your energy on what is most important to you. You won't lose (as much) energy and develop stresses over issues that are essentially inconsequential. Less stress, less mindless/ emotional eating.
