To keep mindless snacking in check, find a good fidget. For example, I knit, so I keep small knitting projects by my computer, the TV, by my desk at work, etc. That way, I have something to do during downtime and I'm less likely to go find food.
Knitting - A Distraction From My Emotions And Eating
My emotions and thoughts sometimes get out of control and I turn to food to lessen the emotion. When I knit, I find that the racing thoughts and emotions lessen because it is distracting me from what is bothering me busy hand. Also, I use knitting as a distraction when I watch TV or DVDs. If I am knitting, my hands are busy which prevents me from eating.
I am knitting a Great American Aran Afghan and each square is a small victory on the way to the finished blanket. I look at weight loss in a similar way. Each kg is a square. Even if I make mistakes and have to rip the knitting back that's ok cos I can knit it back up later. Same for weight loss.
My knitting is a concrete reminder of my ongoing project, my journey to a healthier me, and that just like the blanket, it will take time, and effort, there will be days that it goes fine, and others when it doesn't, and one dropped stitch does not mean the end of the project!
