2 Tbsp of Borax dissolved in a full coffee pot of water. Run the same borax water through 2 full cycles of your coffee maker. Rinse pot and run another cycle of plain water. Rinse pot and basket. No more stains or coffee grounds residue in basket. Do this once a month.
No elbow grease required! I know there are other coffeepot cleaning methods. If you have more please share!
Add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to 4 cups of water in a small pot. Stir to mix. Set pot to simmer for at least 30 minutes. The baking soda will absorb odors in your home and the simmering water will add a bit of moisture to the air. For a nice fragrance, you can add a few drops of essential oil or liquid potpourri. A small slow cooker works well for this, but a small pot on the stove is just fine.
This solution can do double-duty too. If you have any liquid left, pour it into your sink (with the stopper in place), let it sit and cool for a bit then scrub. Pull the plug and rinse. Your sink is now clean!
Note: Can also be used to clean the toilet bowl (pour it in slowly).
For those in the UK: I always save a couple of the plastic pot lids that come with the 450g pots of Onken Yogurt, because they also fit the small (150g) pots of Total Greek Yogurt, making it easier to keep the Greek Yogurt fresh, because theirs don't come with lids.
I like to add a bit of each of these yogurts to a smoothie to get the extra protein benefit of the Greek Yogurt, while also getting the flavour benefit of the Onken. Using the lids means I can keep the Greek Yogurt fresh for three 50g portions-worth. :-)
