I skipped breakfast for 15 plus years. Sometimes ate lunch but always gorged at night! I would basically eat my dinner and max calorie intake before dinner was done. I started eating breakfast 3 years ago, I always force myself to eat a small lunch, I try to drink 1 litre of water per day, I quit soda and I no longer gorge at night. By accomplishing the above, I dropped my weight 22 lbs. and maintained it.
I use to fill up on coffee by not limiting how much I was drinking and filling it with empty creamer calories. Now I make sure that I have 8 oz of water before each cup of coffee and I only drink 2 cups of coffee. I also make sure the coffee isn't ready until I have at least started my breakfast.
It is easy ignore how many extra calories you are getting by not measuring creamer or filling up on coffee and then you are starving later. I had to break the habit and stop it from wreaking my daily calorie limit. I stopped coffee all together for a few weeks until I could manage the addiction.
