If you find yourself staring at a piece of food you can't seem to say no to stop for a brief moment and explain to yourself why you should have the food or better still why you should NOT have the food. Do it out loud if you're alone or explain it to a friend if you're in company.

Don't mindlessly eat, force yourself to be accountable. Make yourself rationalize your choices.
Watch your calories but still try and consume tasty food you're actually excited for. Limiting yourself too strictly will lead to unhapiness with your diet and/or binge eating.

When we start trying to eat healthy its like salad vs pizza, margaritas vs. water w/ lemon. Be realistic and prepare foods you actually like. For example if you know you're not going to eat plain oatmeal buy the sugary version and work out more later, ease off heavy dressings slowly, etc.
