When you are planning your next meal, try logging it first. It will let you see exactly how many calories and nutrients you are about to eat, and how it will impact your ability to reach your goals for that day. If you don't like what you see, you still have time to adjust!

MORE INFORMATION:
This helps when I know I'll be eating out at a specific restaurant. Many restaurants have menus online, so I look at the options and pick one that works best with my goals.

Sometimes I log more than one choice just to compare them on SparkPeople. Then I delete any that I don't wind up eating.

    I did this exact thing this week and I was pleased and will continue doing it especially when I travel.
I knew I would be eating at a steakhouse behind the hotel where we often stay for business, so I logged on and tracked everything from a very familiar menu. I even included 20% of the bread loaf that we always share so no one would make a comment or ask again "can you have this on your diet" and all that jazz...I stayed just under my calorie goals for the day and it didn't feel at all like I was "dieting"
