You may not realize that most electric companies charge more for power during the day than at night. You can call and find out if that is the case in your area. If it is, make sure you do all your laundry, dishwashing, internet, and other power intensive tasks at night. You will notice the difference on your bill.

We only use the energy efficient light bulbs. They are a little pricey at first but well worth it. The only time the lights come on is sunset and that's mostly in the kitchen area. In the day time on Summer days the A/C is set on 80 and we bought a standing fan which we only use in the summer time and it helps circulate the air in the house. Feels great and has saved A LOT of money. Before my bill for 1 month would be $320.00 Now its $130.00 MAX the lowest I've seen it was $90.00. Can't complain.

My husband has a bad habit of having a light on in whatever room he's in and then leaving it on--even during the day--when he leaves that room. It really irks me. We recently moved to a new apartment that has electric everything--heat, water heater, appliances. The deposit we had to make with the power company was $600, which was a 2-month average of the previous tenant's power bills. I need to break him this annoying habit and teach him to conserve and save on our power bill.
We have early morning sunlight in the room where we have the computer, so he doesn't need to have a light on. There's sunlight in both the living room and bedroom during the day. The only places where there is not a window are the kitchen and bathroom, so he does need to turn lights on when he's there.

We're now serious about not wasting electricity. We have convinced ourselves to look at each light bulb, radio, fan, etc. as water faucets for electricity. Would you wash your hands and walk away leaving the faucet to run all day? Of course not! Keep reading... there's more...189

We also now have at least one floor lamp in each room. Most of the time in the evening that's all we need. (Our living room was built with 8 sunken 65watt flood lights.) Why turn on EIGHT lights when one will do? IF we need it bright, then we go bright, but only for as long as needed. 3
