I recently bought a food scale because I was having a hard time knowing what is considered a reasonable portion. I use it pretty much every day! I have found it very helpful because often times, we may think that we're eating the "right" amount of food but are usually over indulging. I use the scale to measure my nuts, fruits, rice/quinoa before eating.

Get the kids involved and you will see how much they motivate you. My kids remind me to log my food and they love to exercise with me. They even read labels while we grocery shop and make good suggestions about what to buy. They also love being able to measure food on the food scale and with the measuring cups. This has turned out to be fun and we all are enjoying our new lifestyle. 341205
I tended to under-estimate food portions when I tried to "guess" at a serving. I still measure my cereal, milk & juice each morning. I read packaging for portion sizes, and use the Food Tracker. I use a "fancy china portion plate" I ordered from England for dinner - it has portions beautifully painted on it's face. A nice, elegant feel that makes portion control more fun. I hope to one day be able to "eye ball it" but for now weighing and measuring food at home is helping me alot!
