When you bring your cilantro home, trim a small amount off the bottom of the stems, remove any leaves near the bottom, and place the cilantro in a jar of water. Make sure no leaves get into the water. Place the jar in the refrigerator. Your cilantro will stay fresh up to 2 weeks!
Asparagus and fresh parsley! These are natural diuretics and they work wonders. I especially fresh asparagus grilled (just have to put it opposite the grill grid, lol). I like the flat leaf parsley better than the curly, much more flavor. Put it on & in everything!
Canned asparagus is great to keep on hand. It works too, but you are gaining a lot of sodium and losing the good fiber. I've been putting parsley on my sandwiches, in my salads, chopped and sprinkled on just about anything.
Recipe for a 5 veggie soup that runs about 350 calories for 2 cups. Kids like it to0. Freezes for lunches 1 pound ground veal 1 46 oz can Cento chicken broth (we love Cento the best; Swanson's is our #2) 1 can chopped tomatoes (we like Cento or Furman) half a head of napa cabbage (not as pungent) 1 huge onion About half a stalk of celery Garlic (we like Penzey's dehydrated) fresh parsley (huge bouquet) green beans
Chop all veggies while meat is browning, then add all but tomatoes in with meat and cook until onions and celery are translucent. Then add broth, cook for several hours. Add tomatoes in final 30 minutes.
